PDF Highlighting Tip for 990s
February 03, 2010

Did you know that when you open a 990 or 990-PF from your Power Search or 990 Search results list in FDO Professional, your search terms can be automatically highlighted within the PDF document, and you can click forward or backward to the next/previous instance of the highlighted term?

For most of you, this should happen automatically, but for some of you with newer versions of Adobe Reader, you may need to take a few steps to set up Reader to show your highlighted terms:

  1. Open Adobe Reader from your Windows Start menu (or Mac equivalent).
  2. Click Edit -> Preferences.
  3. In the Preferences window that opens, under Categories, choose Search.
  4. In the right-hand menu, click the check box next to "Enable search highlights from external highlight server."

Use the screencaps below for more help enabling the highlighting. Click each thumbnail to see it full-size.
