Exporting Tool Enhancement
December 19, 2008

Excel I have great news for those of you who use FDO's exporting tool: your spreadsheet file will now contain complete contact and address information when you export data from a grantmaker search results list. In all, up to nine new data fields will appear in addition to the original five, grantmaker name, city, state, total giving, and total assets.

As with the funder-specific alert service that we added to FDO earlier in the week, this enhancement was also a frequent subscriber request. In the interest of serving you better, we're pleased to oblige.

Announcing FDO Alerts!
December 17, 2008

Today, we debuted an exciting new service for FDO Professional subscribers. Now you can sign up to receive alerts on the grantmakers of your choice! FDO Alerts are delivered via e-mail and contain information on profile and status changes; details on newly posted grants; links to new 990 filings; and links to newly posted news articles, job openings, RFP announcements, and publications. Look for the "Add to My Alerts" option in the Tools section of any grantmaker profile.

The addition of a funder-specific alert service has been a popular request for some time now; the results of our last two FDO user surveys clearly show this. We're happy to make this wish a reality and we're sure that FDO Alerts will help you stay current like never before. Grants That Make a Difference
December 15, 2008

We're living in uncertain times, filled with mounting anxieties about the potential effect of the economic crisis on nonprofit organizations and the communities they serve. But, as the holidays approach, we can gain some perspective as we consider the many gifts given and received that help to build a better world every day.

In this spirit, it seems like the appropriate moment to ask for your submissions to a new Foundation Center feature called Grants That Make a Difference. We invite nonprofits, foundations, individual grantseekers, and anyone involved in or touched by philanthropy to share your experiences about the impact of grants or other support you gave or received. What effect did the grant have? Who did it help? What positive change did it create? Why was it effective? Tell us your stories and help us tell the story of philanthropy. We will feature selected stories regularly at various areas of our web site. Submit your story today!

Economic Crisis Grants
December 03, 2008

The Foundation Center is actively collecting data from a variety of sources on grants made in support of those affected by the current economic crisis. As part of this effort, we've added a new "Economic crisis" index entry for the Subjects search field in FDO's Search Grants database. Subscribers to our Plus, Premium, Platinum, and Professional plans can use this search term to identify these recently awarded grants related to the downturn. Each grant record will include details on the recipient receiving the grant, the grantmaker awarding the grant, the amount and duration of the grant, and the purpose of the grant, include food assistance, employment services, health care, and housing and shelter.

Are you aware of an economic crisis-related grant that's not in FDO? Send an e-mail to mr@foundationcenter.org and let us know.
